War of the WorldsThe book, War of the Worlds, written by H.G.Wells was based around Woking. A meteor is seen landing on Horsell Common, a few minutes out of the town centre; the first Martian landing in the book. The Common now provides a perfect location for walks and a taste of the countryside. There are many links to War of the Worlds in Woking Town Centre with the H.G.Wells pub and a plane and alien sculptures.
